Vascular Lesions

Vascular lesions are the superficial blue, red or purple veins under the skin’s surface. Redness may appear diffusely as in Rosacea patients or may appear as spider veins, known as telangectesias, which are tiny vessels near the surface of the skin. Other vascular lesions such as angiomas (small red spots), birthmarks or hemangiomas are also responsive to laser treatments. Laser removal of vascular lesions is accomplished with either the Palomar RejuveLux Photofacial or the 1064nm laser, depending on location and extent of lesions. Vessels generally undergo immediate graying or blanching and the surrounding area may redden. The vessels fade after about 10-14 days. Most people experience some mild temporary redness and swelling, similar to a sunburn, in the treated area shortly after treatment. This does not interfere with normal activities and usually subsides within a day. In some cases this redness may last longer, but will still be mild and temporary.
